Steve McClaren – Bouncing Back
Just like Alan Partridge, (hence my awfully rushed, Microsoft Paint picture) Steve McClaren couldn’t reinforce enough just how keen he was to ‘bounce back’ in his press conference this lunchtime.
“I’ll recover, I’ll bounce back, I’m not one to lay on the beach. I believe that after 18 months in this job I am a better manager”, were the words of McClaren. The phrase ‘bounce back’ was a key word, cropping up throughout the brief conference.Refusing to answer most of the interesting questions from the nations media, including one journalist shouting “Why didn’t you resign?” that McClaren just chose to ignore, the live press conference seemed to just be a PR exercise, a ‘come and get me’ plea to all struggling Premiership chairmen.
He did admit though that the buck stopped with him, defending his players and staff to the hilt. In a press conference that promised plenty, Steve McClaren chose to politely refuse to answer plenty of the questions regarding the state of English football.
“Im sorry today’s not the time for this. There’s time for that in the future”, was his answer of choice, maybe the press conference should have been at “the time”, then we might have learnt something from what seemed a PR exercise telling the world there was no hard feelings and keeping all his doors well and truly open.
The over-riding feeling I had from watching this waste of my Thursday lunchtime was, there will be ‘another day’ for anything useful to be said but just like Steve Coogan’s comedy creation Alan Partridge, he has given a big job and blew it and now needs to convince himself, and the general public that he will be bouncing back….

Great blog – I don’t think he will bounce back. I think Steve will be given another job but it won’t be long before he manages to screw that up to. One thing’s for sure I don’t want him managing my football team ever again.
betcha he’ll do a deal with the bbc as a media pundit for a while, then come january he’ll be back at derby as manager.
