Sheringham to Liverpool?

Football is littered with the transfers that never happened. Shearer and Ronaldinho to Man Utd, Maradona to Dundee and Asprilla to Darlington amongst others. One story that is doing the rounds today is how Liverpool manager Roy Evans was blocked at the last minute as he looked to complete the signing of Teddy Sheringham in 1998.
The move for the Spurs star was blocked by the Liverpool board who were wary of how Souness filled the squad with ageing players. Teddy went on to score in the European Cup final the following season for Manchester United as he helped them to the treble.
Sheringham may well have been reunited at Anfield with his old England strike partner Alan Shearer. The story at the time was that Evans’ successor Houllier had the deal lined up before Newcastle pulled out when the fans heard of the news and weren’t happy.
